This year's G.A.S../Instinsik
THursday Night Training Rides will build on the success of
last year, with some new improvements:
-Two groups!
Last year the rides were targeted for
women, but attended my a mixed group. This year we'll have two
groups. We'll have a women's group that is aimed at women road
riders who are interested in learning more about road riding
in a structured format. Each week we will explore a different
topic with guided practice time, feedback and coaching on how
to improve.
We will also have an "open" group for
the guys. Women are welcome to ride with this group as well.
The open group will be more loosely structured, but will still
have a focus on the topic of the week. The idea will be
practice time rather than instruction. The pace of this ride
will be faster than the women's group, and it is expected that
participants have a basic knowledge of group riding. A working
knowledge of our local geography might be a good idea too,
just in case the pace is faster than you anticipated. Since
this part of the ride is brand new, it's hard to say what the
pace will be like, so stay tuned.
Occasionally, when the topic permits, we
will mix the groups. An example would be for race tactics
where it's fun to have a mixed group to make the teamwork more
interesting.
-Topics
The topics for this spring will be
similar to those we used last spring, because these are the
fundamentals of good riding. We realized that by mid-summer
last year, our topics had gotten fairly sophisticated, which
made it harder for newcomers to join our group. So this year,
at least once every
4-6 weeks, we'll have an introductory
topic that will allow for new riders to come over and check
out these rides.
-Meeting time and location
We will meet at 6:00 PM at Rocky
Mountain Roasters on *Mendenhall*, next to the Ridge Downtown,
between Black and Bozeman. There is a large parking lot where
we will assemble, but that is private parking. If you are
driving to the ride, there is a public lot on the south side
of Mendenhall.
Below are the topics for the next 5
weeks.
Thursday, April 26 - Topic: Welcome and
meet the GAS team, friendly group ride and review of the
basics of group riding etiquette and skills. Whole group rides
together for ~ 5 miles then we'll split into 2 groups. Expect
the rides to go for ~ 1.5 - 2 hours at an easy to moderate
pace.
