| The Gallatin Ridge Riders is the
mountain biking committee of the Gallatin Valley Bicycle Club (GVBC).
We serve riders in the Gallatin National Forest region. The
committee's focus is to create, enhance and preserve
single-track opportunities for mountain bikers. The
committee will also actively promote responsible mountain
biking, sponsor a series of group rides for mountain bikers,
support volunteer trail work, give input to land managers on
trail management, and improve relations with other trail user
groups.
GVBC is a 503(c) non-profit
organization that promotes cycling on road and trail for both
recreational riders and racers. GVBC, and its affiliate GRR, are
members of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA),
and most active and influential trail advocate organization in
the world .

Mountain Bike Leverich Trail Work Day Report from Greg Beardslee -
Oct 4, 2008
I had my apprehensions while waiting at the trailhead, but the
Leverich work day turned out very well. Initially about 18
people showed up to work, and in my estimation, we needed many
more to properly stabilize the trail before winter. As is
turned out, I had nothing to worry about, except I wasnt able
to properly perform a couple of organizational chores, because I
had to work. The people who showed were ready to work, grasped
the need to get going, and turned out a safer, and useable
product. Plus, more people trickled in during the morning, and
about 30 workers in total, managed to get the job done in 6
hours. They did such a
good job and took so much pride in the trail that many who rode
it after working want to join GVBC next spring and also
participate in upkeep and upgrades in it. Those that rode it
were very happy, and want to build the grade reversals that are
still needed by hand, instead of having the excavator return
next week.
So, L-2 is safe and open, and it
should be ridden between now and when the snow covers it to pack
and smooth the tread. A few more roots need to be clipped on
the lower half, but basically, it is ready to roll on. However,
the new uphill is not ready yet for the public. Give the
contractor a couple of days to finish up. But the old trail is
still open for uphill travel. At the top of the old trail, at
the point where we built a new switchback 2 years ago, the
normal Leverich route would turn left (east) allowing one to
intersect with the forest road from Moser. Instead, the new
route will turn right (west) from where we worked 2 years ago,
and then follows an old overgrown logging road which turns into
the unfinished, but passable, singletrack. This connector leads
directly to the L-2 downhill trail, so you can bypass the forest
road above. There is no signage yet. Enjoy and be safe.
Please ride the new trail without skidding, as we need to pack
in down, not tear it up.
Anyone who wants to work on the
singletrack connector should call me, Greg Beardslee (see
officers page for #), and Ill line you out on what is needed.
Much thanks to Lucian, Bob, and
Jason who led and charged hard to get er done. Huge thanks to
the new stewards of L-2, many of us are looking forward to a new
infusion of energy into the Gallatin Valley Bicycle Club.
17
people from the Gallatin Ridge Riders of GVBC came out to do
trail work at Lewis and Clark Caverns for National Trails
Day on June 7, 2008. Work was done
on the hiking and biking trail east and west of the granite
tunnel halfway up the road
to the caverns.

Team LUNA Chix will offer a Mountain Bike
Skills Clinic for
women at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Bohart Ranch.
The cost of $5.00 will serve as a donation to the Breast Cancer Fund.
The workshop's goal is to provide skills to those who
want to be more confident riding their mountain bike. The clinic
invites beginner as well as intermediate riders who are
interested in brushing up their skills. The beginner group, for those with
limited or no experience on single track, will work on
bike balance, braking and shifting and body position. The intermediate
group will learn to tackle switchbacks, overcome
obstacles and climb and descend steep sections. Participants must
bring their own mountain bike in good working order and
wear a helmet. All participants will receive a free LUNA water
bottle.
Space is
limited; reserve a spot by calling 581-0946 or e-mailing
