Tuesday Night Training Ride Series End of Season Finale Crit  2008

Tuesday Night Training Ride Series Sprints Practice and BBQ 2009

Gallatin Valley Bicycle Club’s Training Ride Series 2009

        1. FEES & NUMBERS: The training ride series fee for the upcoming season will be $15, to cover this year's insurance  costs. All riders MUST be members of GVBC ($10). If you only want to attend a couple of rides, they can be done for $5 each, with the first ride being free if you want to come out to try out the series.

When you pay your Training Ride Series fee, you will receive a number for your bike. The A group will have white
numbers this year, and the B and Women’s group will have white numbers with a red stripe across the bottom.
Please turn in last year’s numbers at the Spring party, SWAP, or the first race.

        2. REQUIREMENTS. All participants must be members in good standing of GVBC on the day of the race. All participants must sign a waiver form at EACH ride (these can be printed out on the GVBC website, and will also be available at each ride). Out-of-town guests may participate, but they must be members of USA Cycling or join GVBC.

        3. VENUES/TIMES: The ride series will rotate between a 20 kilometer timed individual ride, a 19 mile circuit ride over a 2 mile loop or a crit over a 1 mile loop, and a ~20 mile road ride. See schedule below for dates for each ride. Each will start at 6:30 p.m. (please arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign up for each ride).

a)  Individual Time Trials will be held on Springhill Road, starting and finishing at East Baseline Road (please park on the first street on the left after turning onto East Baseline from Springhill Rd), with the turnaround at the “Pavement Ends” sign right before Reese Creek. The Dry Creek Team Time Trial will begin at the softball fields on Dry Creek Rd in Belgrade (take a right onto N Broadway from Main Street heading west, park at the softball fields on the left after crossing Cameron Ave) and turn around at 20k. Both Team Time Trials can be ridden solo as well. Details of the Hill Climb Time Trials are still being worked out and will come soon. Time Trial times will be posted on the GVBC website following each Time Trial Ride, or as soon as Amy gets around to it!

Hand cyclists and juniors will have the option of riding a 10k time trial on the Springhill and Dry Creek course. Please let Amy know if you plan to ride the 10k so we can have a volunteer for the turn around point.

        b) The Circuit Ride will begin in the Green Hills Subdivision off South Cottonwood Road. New this year there will be a preem lap on lap 5. Additional series points will be awarded to the winner of the preem for each group (A, B, Women’s), and super cool prizes will be awarded to the winners as well!

The crit will take place either at the Black Bull Golf Community (take Durston heading west, and enter Black Bull Community after crossing Love Lane. Take a left across from Ballindalloch Lane (I’m not sure if the street you will take a left onto is signed. There are several culdesacs in here for parking), or at the Meadow Creek subdivision (take a right onto Graf Street off of 19th heading south, continue to Enterprise St, and you will be on the NE corner of the course).

        c) Road Rides will alternate between the Bridger Canyon Road Ride (starting at the six-mile marker with the turn-around at Bohart Ranch – total of 22 miles), and the Jackson Creek Road Ride (starting at the six-mile marker on Bridger Canyon Road, turning right onto Jackson Creek Road, 2 times around the loop across from the little schoolhouse, and finish at the top of the hill on Jackson Creek – exact distance…..not sure!).

d) The venue for the Match Sprints is still being decided upon. Details for this ride and the BBQ to follow coming soon.

e) The Working Man’s Training Stage Race will consist of a different ride each night of the week from Monday through Thursday.  Separate points will be kept for the Training Stage Race (each person’s top 3 finishes will count towards the Stage Points), and volunteers will be organized separately as well (see below). A potluck will follow Thursday’s Training Stage. More details will be coming soon!

        e) CANCELLATIONS will be emailed to the Training Ride Email List (please provide your email address when signing up for GVBC or when signing the waiver at the training ride series so you can be contacted for cancellations and other changes, details, etc).

        4. SAFETY: In addition to requiring helmets and no parking on the race venues:

        a) PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROAD AT THE BRIDGER CANYON STAGING AREA!!!! Riders must stay off the road at all start/finish areas and not impede traffic. Riders who don’t stay off the roads in these areas will not be allowed to participate in the ride.

        b) PLEASE DO NOT CROSS THE YELLOW LINE!!!! Especially on the 2 corners of the South Cottonwood Rd stretch of the Green Hills Circuit Ride, it is very dangerous to cross the yellow line. Please be aware that cars have, in the past, tried to pass riders on the right side when the pack crosses the yellow line to take a wide right turn off of Cottonwood Road in the circuit ride. You MUST stay on the right side of the road for this turn. It is very hard for the corner volunteer to stop a car when they think they can zip by on the right side.  Riders who cross the yellow line (unless avoiding an accident) will be kicked out of the ride!!!

5. VOLUNTEERS: We will only conduct rides if there are adequate volunteers to help with event safety and organization.  Please volunteer for at least two rides during the season (volunteers for the Working Man’s Training Stage Race will be organized separately). Please sign up through Amy Chiuchiolo (achiuchiolo@montana.edu) using the online Volunteer Sign-up schedule. Riders who do not help with rides will be reminded with an email to the Training Ride Email List.  Avoid this shame and humiliation by volunteering!!! Additional volunteers for sweeping the circuit course are appreciated.  In the event that we do not have the minimum number of volunteers required, for safety’s sake, the ride will be cancelled.

Thank you to Chris Lapp for again volunteering the transport the “Bikes on Road” signs to each race!
